Xichong in Shenzhen is the only International Dark-Sky Community in China, bestwoed in 2023. Aiming to create a balance between local human development and protection for natural environment, especially the night sky, local government actively supports such community. In Xichong, the Shenzhen Observatory, which is the only professional observatory in South China, is open to tourists so that they can have a better understanding to the cosmology and star observing, acting as an eduactional tool. In addition, the government has introduced policies and environmental management restrictions to improve the air quality in Xichong community, significantly reducing the light pollution caused by improper use of lighting systems.
